Memories for Life

When the love of your life goes to heaven, your memories will never die.

Working with fellow pet parents and being one myself, there's a common fear/belief that the memories you once had might disappear now that your beloved has died.

You know the feeling. It's the terrifying feeling inside (in the pit of your stomach) that the devastation of your loss has taken your precious/priceless memories along with it.

I'm here to share with you that your love story can still live on by taking a few steps in the early stages of your grief journey to preserve your precious memories with your loved one.

Memories for life - pet loss support

If you're experiencing brain fog, forgetfulness, confusion, and feeling as if you've lost some memories of your sweet one, you're not alone.

The truth is these feelings are natural when you experience such a dramatic loss. But, the good news is these feelings are not permanent. Instead, they are a temporary and natural part of the grieving process.

Give yourself permission to write down memories when they pop into your mind.

Here's what I want you to remember. Your memories are alive within you. They will never die.

Here's an exercise I have families practice that makes a world of difference. First, have a notebook and pen in a few places strategically placed in your house. Then, ask God to uncover and recover the precious memories you shared with your beloved and write them down in shorthand.

Sometimes it can feel overwhelming to think about writing things down at this stage of your grief journey. I suggest you make bullet points for your memories, so you do not feel overwhelmed. Jot down just a few lines and then move on.

Over time you will see the memories that are resurfacing are priceless. Trust God is working on healing your heart while He restores your cognitive health and wellbeing.

My friend, you are not alone! Just know fellow pet parents are experiencing the same thoughts and feelings as you are...and doing this exercise right now will pay off tremendously throughout the years ahead.

If you would like some extra support and guidance, I'm here for you. I'm only a phone call or click away.

From my heart to yours,

Rachel
